Public schools to be closed one day earlier to facilitate LGE- Education Ministry

In light of the upcoming Local Government Elections (LGE) on March 18, 2016, the Ministry of Education has announced that all public schools will be closed for the Easter holiday from Thursday March 17, 2016 and not March 18, 2016, as was previously announced.

Schools will reopen on Monday, April 4, 2016.

Only yesterday (March 8, 2016) members of the Disciplined Services cast their ballots for LGE. The Guyana Fire Service and the rest of the population will follow suit in the next few weeks.

The Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) has communicated its readiness for these long overdue polls.

Chief-of-Staff and Head of the Joint Services Commission, Brigadier Mark Phillips has also conveyed to the media that the ranks are fully prepared for that day.
