Former police arrested after “accidental” shooting death of miner

FEROZ Khan, a thirty year old miner from Fourth Avenue Bartica, Region 7 was today (March 24)  killed after a 9mm pistol “accidentally” went off and shot him to the abdomen.

In custody is a former police Sergeant, 40 year old Shawn Sandy who is now hospitalised under police guard at the Bartica Hospital. He reportedly shot himself to the hand.

He told the police that he found the weapon in a clump of bushes and was attempting to clear the barrel when it accidentally went off.

Police sources indicated that the incident took place at approximately 14:45hrs today at King Boy Hole, Mazaruni River.
