Western Tigers edged the Guyana Police Force (GPF) Football Team 1 – 0 to remain on top the GFA STAG Premier League, while Riddim Squad defeated Santos FC 2 – 1 to move into second place.

Playing last evening (March 24) at the Georgetown Football Club Ground, Western Tigers, who was only defeated once in their six previous games, picked up their sixth win when Joshua Britton scored in the 30th minute.

The West Ruimveldt based club who entered the league as favourites to win the coveted titled, played well defensively to resist the Police’s raid and to hold on for the important win.

Santos FC, had previously sat behind Western Tigers on the table, and for the first time, dropped to third place; overtaken by Riddim Squad.

The Mocha Arcadia club fell behind in the 33rd minute, when Christopher Hydurkhan scored to put Santos FC in control of the game.

Riddim Squad trailed until the 67th minute when they equalized with a goal off the boot of Rawle Ramsay.

Ten minutes later, a defensive blunder by Santos, resulted in an own goal being scored which ultimately turned out to be the winning goal for Riddim Squad and enough to move them, for the first time, to second place on the eight-team table.
