The Head of State has taken responsibility for the administration’s recent move to rescind the appointment of businessman, Brian Tiwarie as Ministerial Advisor on Business Development.

“I personally rescinded Mr. Tiwarie’s appointment” President Granger said.

It was during the recording of his weekly programme, “Public Interest” this morning (March 31) that the President made the disclosure on the matter, highlighting that government does not “have any ongoing relations with Mr. Tiwarie.”

Granger made it clear that “Mr. Tiwarie is not an appointee of the government” and “he is not performing any function, and that is why the position was rescinded” since there is no “need for him in that role” the President added.

President Granger said Tiwarie “is not required to provide any business function” since in his view there is “a Minister of Business.”

Granger expressed confidence in his Business Minister noting that he is “capable” and “competent” to function as the subject Minister, saying “he has not asked me for any assistance.”

According to the President, Minister of State Joseph Harmon is presently out of the country with a representative from the National Industrial and Commercial Investments Limited (NICIL) dealing with government business concerning Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company’s (GTT) interest.

The government’s reaction to the situation came days after widespread criticism from several sections of the society after Tiwarie’s appointment was first publicized.
