5th batch of Operating Room Technicians urged to perform exceptionally

Public health minister, Dr. George Norton has expressed hope that the 5^th batch of Operating Room Technicians would apply the knowledge and skills they attained during the 9 months of training and 3 months of preceptorship to the best of their abilities in the respective operating rooms.

The 18 graduands were attached to the Georgetown Public Hospital, West Demerara Regional Hospital, Davis Memorial Hospital, Georgetown Medical Centre, St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, and from Regions 2 and 10.

Over the one year, the technician engaged in rigorous training in areas such as Infection Control, Code of Conduct in the Operating Room, Care and Knowledge of Operating Room equipment and instruments and Confidentiality of patient information.

Minister Norton acknowledged the significant contribution of Operating Room Technicians, towards ensuring that patients have the best quality pre and post operative care.

He noted too that “honesty is a very important trait in Operating Room technicians who have to maintain confidentiality of patient information.”

Dishonesty in the Public Health care system, Dr. Norton said “will not be tolerated and health care professionals will be dealt with condignly if they are found guilty of such.”
