Defending champions Christianburg Wismar Secondary School (CWSS) started their quest for a fourth title in style, after hammering Harmony Secondary School 10 – 0 when the annual Edward ‘Screw’ Richmond Memorial football tournament got on the way in Linden.

Amar Jones led the school popularly known as ‘Multi’ with a hat-trick, scoring in the 38th, 87th, and 89th minutes while Antwaine Gill finished the afternoon netting a double (60th and 69th minute).

Shaquille Campbell (13th), Ezekiel Clarke (50th), Keyshawn Dey (76th), Brian Joseph (79th) and Javier Smith (90th) scored a goal each to round off the winner’s tally.

Considered the best football playing school in Guyana, the Christianburg-based school will chase their second win on Tuesday April 12 when they come up against rivals News Silvercity Secondary at the Wisburg Secondary School Ground from 14:45 hours.

Meanwhile, the second encounter saw a much tighter affair with a solitary strike being the difference maker between two talented squads, as the Linden Technical Institute squeezed past Linden Foundation Secondary.

The two teams battled to a goalless first half but Coby Bourne  scored what turned out to be the game winner in the 50th minute to hand the Linden Technical Institute the win.

Wisburg School ground played host to the final four teams that make up the eight participating schools in this 8th edition of the tournament, as play continued yesterday (April 7) with two exciting matches.

The first game saw hearts being broken as one team overturned a two-goal deficit and grind out a win.  Emanuel Atkins had given New Silvercity Secondary a 2 – 0 lead with his goals in the 23rd and 27th minutes, but Mackenzie High School rebounded bounced back to win 3 – 2.

Akieme Chapman’s brace (24th and 56th) and Joel Isaacs single strike was enough to see Wisburg Secondary past Marcia Craig’s Educational Institute 3 – 0.

Mackenzie High School will look to continue their good showing when they play Harmony Secondary in the day’s opening game next Tuesday.
