Agriculture Minister Noel Holder has departed Guyana today (April 11) for Costa Rica on official government business to discuss Agricultural priorities among the two countries.

This is according to a press release from the Ministry, which noted that the team, during the next five days will have discussions on the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture’s (IICA) Country Strategy 2014-2018.

The Minister is accompanied by Chief Executive Officer, Guyana Livestock Development Authority (GLDA) Nigel Cumberbatch and General Manager of the Guyana Marketing Corporation (GMC) Ida Sealey-Adams and was invited by the Director General of IICA Victor M. Villalobos.

Systematic, participatory, and an organized approach to dealing with agriculture in the region; support for the construction of medium and long term visions and enabling each country to achieve its development goals are among the areas that would be discussed.

The objective of the visit is to improve the productivity and competitiveness of the agricultural sector, strengthen agriculture’s contribution to the development of territories and well-being of the rural population and improve agricultural capacity to mitigate and adapt to climate change, the Ministry stated.
