USA- based Guyanese sprinter Brenessa Thompson became the second athlete to qualify for the 2016 Rio Olympics.
Thompson clocked 11.31s to dip under the qualifying mark of 11.32s for the women’s 100 metres on Saturday at the Michael Johnson Invitational.
The time was also a new stadium record for the Waco, Texas based Stadium as well as a new personal record for the A&M student.

Thompson also delivered one of Guyana’s all-time women’s 100 metres performances, going five-tenths of a second slower than the women’s 100 metres national record of 11.26s which is held by Jennifer Innis.

Meanwhile Winston George was the first Guyanese to qualify for the Olympics in the men’s 400 metres.
Nevertheless, Thompson will continue her season with the hope of further reducing her time ahead of the world’s most famous games.
