USA-based Guyanese sprinter Adam Harris is aiming to qualify for the Rio Olympics after a bit of a rough start to his 2016 season.

Guyana’s top sprinter and 100 metres record holder, with a time of 10.16 seconds, has his crosshairs locked onto the Olympics set for Brazil in August.

The sprinter who has had a disappointing 2016 indoor season noted that injuries were the main cause for his bad start to 2016. Nevertheless, the speedster vouched to News Room that he has fully recovered.

“Everything is back to normal now for the most part. My coach is keeping me on the grass a bit more to keep some pressure of my legs because of the indoor season but I feel good now; I’m beginning to get back into my full sprint form,” the stocky sprinter stated.

Turning his attention to the Olympics, Harris is confident that he will qualify for the event despite the slow start to the season.

“As for the Olympics I have full trust in my coach and his training methods that qualifying should not be a problem as long as I stay healthy, so that is the goal. If I am able to do that I’m looking forward to more very fast times,” Harris noted.

Harris also indicated to News Room Sports, that he hopes to smash the South American record of 10 seconds flat during this season and believes that he can duck under the 10 second barrier.

“I have run nine seconds before on two occasions both wind aided but I know my legs can go that fast and I will be ready,” Harris noted.

Meanwhile the top sprinter confirmed his participation in the Aliann Pompey (AP) invitational in June and indicated his intention to put on a show for the Guyanese public.

Harris will have until July 11 to run the qualifying time of 10.16 seconds, which happens to be Guyana’s national record to qualify for the Olympics.
