Over the years the IAC has been organizing these events not only to celebrate the achievements Guyanese East Indians ancestors but in its efforts to preserve and foster the rich cultural traditions they brought.

The large gathering that converged at the Anna Regina Community Centre Ground witnessed a number of mesmerizing dances and was treated to melodious singing by members of the Sangeet Rhythms Band.

The enthralling dances were performed by the Shelita and Kanhaiya Dance Troupes along with Devindy Ramnarine, Sangeeta Premnauth and Devishani Naipaul.

Among those addressing the gathering was Vice Chairperson for Region 2, Juliet Coonja.

The IAC’s next Mela for 2016 will be on Saturday, May 15 at the University of Guyana Tain Campus. The Shakti Strings Orchestra along with leading dancers would provide the entertainment.
