Guyana’s campaign in the Pan American Junior Men’s hockey tournament got worse on Monday afternoon, as they were blown away 8-0 by host Canada.

Competing in the final group game in Pool B, the Guyanese were totally outplayed by the Canadians, who notched up their first win to end in the penultimate spot in the four-team group.

By virtue of three losses from a similar number of games, Guyana ended in the cellar position, and will now play Argentina for placements. That game is slated for Wednesday at 10:00h.

On Monday, the Canadians were led by skipper Brandon Pereira and Kabir Aujla, who scored a double apiece. Pereira, who opened the scoring, netted in the 13th and 50th minutes, while Aujla got on the scoresheets in the 33rd and 60th minutes.

Johnny Gill (15th), Amrit Sidhu (18th), Shahbazz Dhaliwal (47th) and Thomson Harris (68th) were the other goalscorers.

Guyana had suffered identical 7-1 losses to Chile and Mexico in the first two games.
