With five of their players getting on their score sheets, Argentina inflicted a 12-0 drubbing on Guyana in quarter-final action of the Pan American Junior Men’s Hockey Championship in Toronto, Canada, on Wednesday.

The defeat was Guyana’s fourth from as many games in the competition. In a clash of South American nations, Argentina proved far superior, as they continued their goal scoring spree in the competition.

Skipper Maico Casella was in top form, blasting in four goals in the seventh, 32nd, 57th and 63rd minutes. Tomas Domene provided solid support with a treble, netting in the 10th, 13th and 45th minutes.

Nicolas Acosta had opened the scoring as early as the third minute, and completed his double in the 61st, while Federico Mareschi added a double in the 11th and 48th minutes. Martin Ferreiro was also on target in the 41st minute.

So far in the competition, the Guyanese have conceded 34 goals, while scoring only two; both by play maker Aroydy Branford. Prior to the Argentina game, they lost 7-1 to Chile and Mexico and 8-0 to host Canada in Pool B action.

Guyana’s next game will be on Friday against the loser of the Mexico/USA game, which is currently in progress.
