    Following an intense players’ evaluation process last weekend at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, the Guyana Amateur Basketball Federation (GABF) has shortlisted 18 male players ahead of the Caribbean Basketball Confederation (CBC) Under-16 Championships.

     

    In addition, the women shortlisted for the Caribbean’s leading junior basketball tournament will need another week to name their 15-member squad. This is according to a press release from the GABF.

     

    A total of 74 youth basketball players (46 boys and 28 girls) participated in the selection process; 28 boys were invited to trials, with 18 more arriving as ‘walk-on’.

    Meanwhile, on the female side, 22 were invited while GABF affiliated coaches recommended eight others.

     

    The Boys shortlisted are: Yannick Tappin, Leon Benjamin (Mackenzie High School);Kevon Wiggins, Kelmar Carmichael (New Amsterdam Multilateral); Shamar France (Berbice High); Kwesi Roberts (St. Roses High); Andrew Johnson, Nigel Bowen (Plaisance Secondary); Roydon Glasgow (Bishops’ High); Isaiah David (Kwakwani Secondary); Akeem Crandon, Kareem Boyle, Kenmon Roberts (President’s College); Jordan Alphonso, Jahleel Young (Marian Academy);  Zion Gray (Tutorial High); Quacey Shortt (Bladen Hall) and Jamal Persaud (North Georgetown).

     

    Lugard Mohan was named Head Coach of the Boys’ team. He received assistance last weekend from Kevin Bonnett, Willon Cameron, Wayne Hinds and Andrew Hercules. The physical trainer was Dominic Vincente.

     

    Abdullah Hamid was named Head Coach of the Girls’ team. He got assistance from Ann Gordon , Kirk Fraser, Julian Haynes and Hercules.

     

    In addition, D.C Jammers team, High School Coach and Player Development Specialist, Kenny Avent, played a valuable role in giving instructional and tactical support to the process. Training for the 18 men named will be intensified over the upcoming weeks.
