Former Public Works Minister dies

The Ministry of Public Infrastructure today extends condolence at the passing of former Minister of Public Works, Mr. Jules Kranenburg who served in the capacity from 1986 to 1992.

Mr. Kranenburg died on May 30, 2016 at 83 years old.

He previously served as a Chief Pilot in the Maritime Division of the Transport and Harbours Department under the Ministry of Public Works before he made his way to the Bauxite Industry Development Company (BIDCO) as head of its Shipping Department.

In 1986, Mr. Kranenburg was appointed Minister of Public Works and he held this position until 1992. He later went on to serve as a director on the board of the Canaiwaima Ferry Services Inc. (CFSI), under the Ministry, when it began its operations in November 1998. Up until his death, Mr. Kranenburg continued to serve as a member of CFSI’s board.

Outside of his stellar professional achievements, Mr. Kranenburg was fondly known as “Dickie” and persons still within the ministry remember him as jovial and always willing to lend a helping hand.

The Ministry says it offers its sympathies to the family and friends of Mr. Kranenburg in their time of grieving, adding that “the nation has truly lost a great son.”
