Bolt would give back gold

Jamaican sprint king Usain Bolt claims he would have no issue handing back an Olympic gold medals if it is found that teammate Nesta Carter, a member of the 4x100m relay team, used a performance enhancing substance.

According to recent reports Carter, a member of the Jamaica relay team for several Olympic and World Championship triumphs, has returned an adverse analytical finding for methylhexanamine in a re-test of samples from the Beijing Olympic Games.

Punishments handed out for use of the substance so far have ranged from six months to one year and nullifying of results for the period.

The loss of a medal at this stage would make it unlikely for Bolt, who currently has 6 Olympic gold medals, to equal American sprinter Carl Lewis who has nine medals.

The duo are widely regarded as the greatest track and field sprinters of all time.  Despite that fact, however, Bolt insisted that he would be willing to part with the award.

“It’s heartbreaking because over the years you’ve worked hard to accumulate gold medals and work hard to be a champion … but it’s just one of those things. Things happen in life, so when it’s confirmed or whatever, if I need to give back my gold medal I’d have to give it back, it’s not a problem for me,” Bolt said.

“I can’t tell what he’s going through but it must be hard and frustrating because as I said I’m not too pleased about the situation,” he added.
