Guyana’s CBC U-16 national squads meet the public

The Guyana Amateur Basketball Federation (GABF) went all out to meet the public in an effort to publicize the Caribbean Basketball Confederation (CBC) Under-16 Championships which is set for the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall from July 3 – 16.

At the meet and greet, which was held at the Giftland Mall on Saturday featuring both the male and female national squads, President of the GABF, Nigel Hinds made it clear that education is still the most valuable asset to youths.

Hinds said that the “foremost among those thoughts is the fact that their education is the foundation for any successful state. In the days of the Greek empire one of the recommendations made Plato is that school really stars with outdoor activity. There needs to be a balance of the full support of the government to recognise the importance of sport plays in the development of youth”.

Hinds, who went onto highlight the various upgrades being done to the Sports Hall, still shared that it is important that all stakeholders see it necessary to release the liquid cash in order for the tournament to run smoothly.

Meanwhile the Director of Sport Christopher Jones made no mistake in sharing the significance of the championships to Guyana, adding “as a result of these championships and the upgrades Guyana is now in a position to host international events.  This also brings tourism to the country because of the countries and types of coverage that will be coming into Guyana and it exposes the country for tourism”.

Jones also wished both the male and female squads well in the tournament and made a plea to all Guyanese to come out and support the kids in their bids to bring regional glory to the nation.

This is the second occasion where Guyana is participating and hosting the CBC youth tournament; the first was in 1999.
