After losing last year’s finals 2 – 1 to the Christianburg Wismar Secondary School, Chase Academy made a positive start on their road to redemption, with a 10 – 1 drubbing of the Guyana Industrial Training Centre (GTIC) when the Digicel Schools football tournament continued on Tuesday at the Ministry of Education ground.

Despite wet and soggy conditions, Chase weaved through the spacious defence of GTIC at will on their way to an emphatic win.

Nicholas McArtur (Number 7) slots one past the keeper.

The talent difference was obvious as a number of the players from Chase took turns attacking the defence of GTIC and often times threw away goals that would have made the game more lopsided had the conditions been better.

Chase started the ball rolling early in the encounter and struck in the ninth minute, with the goal coming off the cleats of Daniel Floy.

Captain Jeremy Garrett, Shomol Smith and Joshua Williams soon followed suit with goals in the 28th, 32nd and 34th minutes respectively for a 4-0 first half lead.

The second half proved to be even more of a mismatch between the two sides with only one blunder coming from Chase in the 64th minute that allowed GTIC to slot in a penalty through a strike from Andrew Bennett.

Nevertheless, the goal scoring barrage continued and Job Caesar would score a brace in the second half (70th, 79th) along with substitute Timothy Alberts in the 76th and 78th minutes.

Ryan Hackette and Nicholas McArthur would complete the goal scoring fest in the 69th and 53rd minutes respectively.

Meanwhile action in Region 10 action, Kwakwani Secondary needled (1-0) Mackenzie High School.  Jhavon Archer was the lone scorer for the school in the Berbice River with his goal coming in the 76th minute.

Games will continue during the course of the week at various grounds across Guyana.
