Students and staff of the Ptolemy Reid Rehabilitation Centre were given a special treat on Friday morning when some members of the Guyana Amazon Warriors visited the Carmichael Street facility for an interactive session.

The event was coordinated by Digicel (Guyana), and officials of the company, including Head of Marketing Jacqueline James and Communications Manager Vidya Bijlall- Sanichara were also present to distribute the entity’s paraphernalia.

Dressed in their training uniform, the Amazon Warriors, led by the skipper Martin Guptill, mingled with the young boys and girls, as well as staff members, who were all too eager to host them.

Accompanying the captain were all-rounders Dwayne Smith and Christopher Barnwell, batsman Assad Fudadin, leg-spinner Devendra Bishoo and wicketkeeper Steven Katwaroo.

During the one hour session, the players exchanged pleasantries, signed branded Digicel caps and also shared some tips on batting and bowling with the students. The cameras were also out, as everyone tried to capture a moment with their favourite Warriors player.

In a brief interview with the media, Bijlall- Sanichara, explained that the event has been an annual one by the company ever since the Hero Caribbean Premier League (CPL) started in 2013.

“This is something we always try to do whenever we have the players in Guyana, especially our Brand Ambassadors Christopher Barnwell and Devendra Bishoo,” Bijlall- Sanichara said.

She added that Digicel has always been supportive of special needs students, and will continue to do so through its various community programmes and outreaches.

“Special needs is something that is very close to our hearts at Digicel; it’s also close to the Warriors hearts as well, and we like to use the phrase ‘Warriors care.’ So this is one way of showing and exemplifying how the Warriors care,” she explained.

Digicel is a major sponsor of the Hero CPL, and is also a proud sponsor of West Indies cricket.
