Students of the Canje Secondary School, who complete the Secondary Competency Certificate Programme (SCCP) will be afforded the opportunity to attend a government tertiary institution.

Head of the Education Sub-Committee in Region 6, Zaman Hussain revealed that these students would not have written the CSEC exams, but the certificates that will be received at the completion of the SCCP will allow them to further pursue studies at the Government Technical Institutes.

He emphasised that when these students pursue higher studies at the Technical Institutes it gives them the upper hand to further develop what they have already learnt during the programme.

Hussain said the SCCP gives them a boost when venturing out to pursue further studies or seeking employment.

The Secondary Competency Certificate Programme focuses on students’ attendance, reduction of school drop outs, shore-up equity, enhance quality and relevance in the area of technical and vocational education in Grades 9 and 10.

The programme is designed with focus on what students can do in the workplace after completion of training.

Ritesh Tularam is the programme coordinator. It was created through the Ministry of Education, Technical and Vocational Education and Training unit.
