Cevons contention “Unfair…and without merit” – Ministry of Communities

Contentions made by Cevons Waste Management has been deemed “unfair, biased and is without merit” by the Ministry of Communities.

According to media reports, Cevons Waste Management has filed a protest with the newly-established Bid Protest Committee (BPC) over the award of the recently announced $221M contract to Puran Brothers Disposal Inc. for the operation and maintenance of the Haags Bosch Landfill. The company claimed that the process of selection was unfair.

In a statement on Tuesday, the Ministry said it “wishes to assure the public that claims by Cevons that the company was sidelined are inaccurate and reiterates that the tender process was based on the stipulated criteria as outlined in the Procurement Act.”

The contract was signed between the Ministry of Communities and Puran Brothers Disposal Inc. on July 14, 2016.

It was noted in the Ministry’s statement that the contract was signed in an effort to bring relief to residents of Eccles and neighbouring communities as it has been, over the past several months, working to ensure that the Haags Bosch Landfill facility be transformed into a site which complies with international and health environmental standards.

The Bid Protest Committee (BPC) comprises of Chairperson, Renee McDonald, members; Archibald Clifton and Ewart Adams.

Bids were invited in February, subsequent to the termination of a contract held by BK Inc to take over the job of maintaining the landfill.

The Engineer’s Estimate for the project was $27M for monthly operations.

Five companies submitted bids.
