Virat Kohli scored his maiden double hundred and Ravinchandran Ashwin scored his third century as India declared on 566-8 during the final session on day two of the first Test against West Indies in Antigua.

Starting the day on 302-4, India again dominated the West Indian bowlers, with Kohli becoming the first Indian captain to score a double century in the Caribbean.

The right-hander was bowled by Shannon Gabriel off a bottom edge for exactly 200 (283 balls, 24x4s). He added 168 for the fifth wicket with Ashwin, who made 113 (253 balls, 12x4s). All three of Ashwin’s Test hundreds have now come against the West Indies.

Amit Mishra raced to 53, while Wriddhiman Saha chipped in with 40. Bowling for the West Indies, Kraigg Brathwaite claimed 3-65, Devendra Bishoo 3-163 and Gabriel 2-65. The declaration meant West Indies, having spent over five sessions in the field, will have to negotiate 16 tricky overs before the close of play.
