GBTI hosts Summer Camp- focusing on literacy and craft

A local bank is focusing on ensuring its early savers are exposed to literacy and craft during their August vacation.

During this week, the Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry Limited (GBTI), through it’s annual Early Savers Summer Camp which started on Monday is recognising the need to mold the minds of the future generation.

Marketing Manager, Pamela Binda said the Bank focuses on literacy since “over the years, literacy has been on the front agenda for a lot of companies and especially for GBTI where we see this as being number one, simply because our education system, in my opinion, far above any Caribbean country, so I think we need to push that and promote that…technology has taken over the new generation and so we want to bring back literacy into our little early savers account” she said.

According to Ms. Binda this year’s Summer Camp has expanded since it now caters for two age groups. She said there are the 7-10 age group and the 11-15 age group.

The GBTI Marketing Manager said becoming an early saver is an invaluable lesson that parents can teach their child.

The camp will come to an end on Friday with a mini exhibition of the art pieces and a presentation ceremony for the winners of the best arts and craft projects.

The 45 children participating in the summer camp are members of GBTI’s Early Savers Club and were randomly selected be part of the camp.
