The Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company (GTT) said it is working tirelessly to restore internet connectivity to airlines in Guyana which was caused by a failure of the Americas-II cable system near the shore of Martinique.

On Monday the Cheddi Jagan International Airport Corporation (CJIAC) stated that the damaged cable led to its Automated Airlines Check-in services being down which resulted in passengers being processed manually. This problem led to several flights being delayed.

It was confirmed this morning that the situation remains unchanged.

GTT said the cable consortium has been working tirelessly to restore this service, adding that it has redundant infrastructure and is working with the airline reservation management system, SITA to migrate to redundant routes.

GTT would like to reassure customers that the internet infrastructure is working well via the redundant paths, the company added.

Americas-II is a fiber optic submarine communications cable that extends among the United States, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Martinique, Curaçao, Trinidad, Venezuela, French Guiana, Suriname, Guyana, and Brazil. It has been in service since August 2000 and is operated on a common carrier basis.
