Visa free travel to Colombia on the horizon; discussions to begin shortly

Guyanese will no longer need visas to travel to the South American, Spanish-speaking country of Colombia once negotiations, which will begin shortly are successful between the Foreign Affairs Minister and his Colombian counterparts in this regard.

The negotiations regarding the abolition of visas for the holders of ordinary passports within the two countries are part of a wider discussion to allow free travel among countries belonging to the Union of South American Nations (UNASUR).

This announcement was made this morning by State Minister, Joseph Harmon during the weekly post cabinet media conference.

The reciprocal visa waiver is expected to increase trade and investment opportunities between this country and the South American Territory and facilitate easier travel, Harmon said.

Discussions during the last UNASUR meeting centered on the development of a common passport among member states, thus eliminating the need for visas and Minister Harmon said the commencement of these discussions with Colombia is in keeping with these talks.
