The Guyana Water Incorporated has redefined and reorganized its operational structure to better cater for the needs of the customers . This is according to the agency’s Chief Executive Officer Dr. Richard Van-West Charles.

This disclosure was made today Wednesday at a press conference which included senior management and those who oversee the regional operations.

Dr. Van- West Charles told the media that moving forward, the company would be focusing on several pragmatic areas. These include organisational and management, which involves capacity building, occupational health and safety and human resources.

The others were listed as water production and water quality , water distribution and water quality, sanitation and finance, dealing with customer relations and finances.

The Guyana Water Incorporated also  announced that the company has rearranged some functions and created a new division tasked with the design infrastructure, demand and supply of water resources and another section dealing with project implementation, regulation and compliance.

The CEO told the press that some of the functions of the department were under an old structure and that there was a need to have the changes since the present infrastructure cannot respond to the population demand.

This will see the installation of new wells and treatment programmes in some areas, for example, the Central Ruimveldt area and its surroundings as well as Sophia where the company hopes to realise 24-hour water supply.

The CEO said that there is also a unit established to ensure that the programmes rolled out by the agency are directly linked to its strategic plans with room for emergency cases.

He noted too that one of the main focuses of the company is water quality and hence they are moving to establish mini labs around the country. The pilot project was launched at Shelter Belt where the water is treated to bring it to the quality in accordance with the World Health Organisation.
