A youth organisation is seeking public assistance to ensure that some children can benefit from their annual shoe drive. Over the next 11 days, the organisation will be collecting as many shoes and stationery supplies as it can to assist children in need.

Project Coordinator Kadija Andrews, says on August 29, the Come Alive Network Inc. (CANI) will need the public’s assistance to roll out its annual shoe drive.

    cani

“What we do is have a contact person, usually a liaison officer in the respective communities that we’re going to visit and they relay information to us as in to; who are the deserving kids and parents of our shoes because we try to target those who are not so fortunate and they give us the information…we collect the shoes, we work with a target and we go into the communities. Normally we would usually visit a health centre or community centre and distribute the shoes from there” she related.

According to Ms. Andrews the shoes will be distributed before the new school term by members of the organisation. She added that the organisation is aiming to supply at least 500 students.

“Our signature project is usually Charity, they would have expressed and we have seen the need during our visits there…we’re trying to also serve Mocha this year and perhaps Berbice again.”

CANI for the last few years has managed to distribute more than 700 brand new school shoes along with stationery supply for children in under-served communities across the country.

There is also a Republic Bank Account for persons desirous of contributing to the youth organisation shoe drive as seen on the screen.
