With the arrival of the international athletes, the Boyce and Jefford Track and Field Classic will take centre stage in Linden over the weekend at the Mackenzie Sports Club ground.

At a press conference held on Friday at the Regency Suites, co-Chairman of the Classic, Colin Boyce, highlighted that all systems are in place for the event starting Saturday and concluding on Sunday.

“Boyce and Jefford would have been evolving to what we are deeming a mini-Olympics…we are happy to have the Trinidadians here for a second time and the Jamaicans are back as well.

“I also must commend the ground staff for the shape the ground is in and it can now be compared to probably Eve Leary or Providence- it is fully grassed and even if there a bit of rain it will not be as water logged as before,” Boyce mentioned.

Meanwhile, main sponsor Digicel, represented by Communication Manager, Vidya Bijlall- Sanichara, highlighted the telecommunication giant’s commitment to sport and the Classic.

“We will continue to back youth development and as you know we recently signed Usain Bolt as our Speed Ambassador and we hope that from this we can have more talent coming out regionally,” Bijlall- Sanchara stated.

Smalta Brand Manager Anjelica Rodney noted that Ansa McAL is also pleased to be a part of the event for its seventh edition.

“We are delighted to be onboard ad we are committed to improving sports and we are always looking for avenues to push that; education is important, but also sport as well,” Rodney noted.

Five clubs will be vying for the top prize of one million dollars, and the international athletes are expected to add flavour to the competitive weekend.
