Hire car drivers today expressed their frustration following a change in the water taxi schedule in Berbice.

Speaking with the News Room Anzelle Bristol, a Hire Car driver said, “once they cut off the flow of the boat; we as taxi drivers and hire car drivers will suffer and we will not make the money”.

When asked about them exploring the possibility of relocating , the taxi driver noted that “relocating is not easy, there are other people in other areas, we wanna stay right here cuz we find food here.

“According to Bristol, “all we asking is that they bring back the boat to work regular time.”

Another protestor Troy Fraser said, “we wanted better living and we voted for a change cuz we want a better life, what is gonna happen to the school children who use the boat more than the adults?”.

He told News Room that the service needs to continue with the regular schedule which is 6:00 AM – 6:00 PM throughout the week.

They are calling for an intervention by the relevant authorities.

The schedule of the water taxi was changed from 6:00 AM -6:00 PM to 6:00 AM- 9:00 AM and 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM and will no longer work on weekends and holidays.

The schedule takes effect today September 1, 2016.
