Suicide documentary 50% complete; producers welcoming more sponsorship

A few months ago, former Peace Corps volunteer Dan Honegger shared with News Room his plan to film a documentary on the social phenomenon of Suicide in Guyana.

On Friday, Honegger along with Co-Director and Film Maker , Cory Cross informed that the project is 50 percent complete, however, they are reaching out to the business community and interested persons both, locally and abroad to donate to ensure the project’s timely completion.

Sponsors can look forward to credits at the end of the film, free downloads and other incentives for their contributions to the project, Cross said.

Honegger expressed gratitude for the support they have received thus far, noting that the response has been impressive. He explained what they expect to achieve through the documentary, “what’s contributing to this, the culture surrounding it …what can be done better, how is this influencing or impacting people’s life and just getting the background stories… why is this happening, who is it affecting?”

Honegger said from his experience during visits in the communities of region six, a number of reasons have been attributed to suicide and attempted suicide, including relationship and family issues. He expressed shock at the number of reported cases in that region, recounting his experience during a hospital visit there.

When the documentary is completed the duo plans to host a premier event which would be opened to the public.
