    With the importance of the agriculture sector in mind, the New Amsterdam Technical Institute in collaboration with the World University Service of Canada and MACORP on Friday commissioned a new facility and with equipment to assist students in handling Agricultural Machinery.

    The project was spearheaded by WUSC through the Product, enterprises and Linkages Project (PROPEL).

     

    Presenting her brief remarks was the Principal of NATI Ms. Maxine Thompson, who appealed for greater collaboration between the Institution and the various industries to ensure that graduates of the institution can be better trained.

     

    “NATI will be honoured to have the opportunity to work with ecologists in Canada in the areas such as human resources etc, we are grateful for this collaboration and look forward to greater partnerships with both WUSC and MACORP” she added.

     

    Also present was the Director of WUSC Guyana, Mr. Doug Graham who stated that the PROPEL project is used to link persons and “to improve and enhance the quality of agricultural produce”

     

    Meanwhile, the Canadian High Commissioner to Guyana H.E Pierre Giroux continued that agriculture is a very important part of a country’s gross domestic product  and one way to ensure that the quality of the local produce is improved is “to supply institutions like NATI with improved capacity and quality of instruments that will be used essentially and Machinery that will increase the quality of product”.

     

    He urged students to take on the training that will be offered.

     

    Teachers were also presented with certificates  who took part in the Agricultural Machinery Programme.
