Innings closed: Sarwan retires from cricket

Former Guyana and West Indies captain Ramnaresh ‘Ronnie’ Sarwan will officially announce his retirement from all forms of cricket on Thursday September 15 at 10:00h at the Stella Maris Primary School, Woolford Avenue, Thomas Lands.

The 36-year-old Sarwan started his career at Stella Maris where he scored his first two centuries in the Under-12 competition.

Sarwan played 87 Test matches for the West Indies between May 2000 and June 2011. He scored 5,842 runs with a highest score of 291 with 15 centuries at an average of 40.

Sarwan made his ODI debut in July 2000 against England, playing 181 matches and scoring 5,804 runs at an average of 42 with five hundreds. He also played 220 First-Class matches and made 33 centuries at an average of 38.

Sarwan is still the youngest West Indian player to play First-Class cricket, which he did at 15 years-old.

Sarwan, who was born in Wakenaam, Essequibo, but represented Demerara in Inter-county cricket, last played for Trinbago Knight Riders in this year’s Hero CPL tournament.
