Former Member of the Alliance For Change (AFC), Dr. Veersammy Ramayya had never wanted the party to join with A Partnership for National Unity (APNU), and therefore his resignation from the AFC is consistent with his beliefs.

This is according to Prime Minister, Moses Nagamootoo who is also an Executive Member of the AFC.

“He was the only person in the leadership of the Alliance For Change (AFC) that voted against the AFC entering into a partnership with the APNU. So he is consistent, he said he don’t feel that we should join the coalition, that is why he didn’t even participate or even accepted a seat in the National Assembly” Nagamootoo told media operatives on Thursday.

Dr. Ramayya  who previously resigned from the post of Regional Executive Officer (REO) in Region Six tendered his resignation on September 13, 2016.

“After five long years of commitment to the AFC I have decided now to resign as an executive member of the party, to be honest I was not treated as an executive member of the party, the five plus years I have given to them was a grave sacrifice on my part financially and with my time and effort” Ramayya told media operatives at his home.

He also alleged that there is corruption in the party, noting that “the promises that were made to eradicate corruption was far beyond what we have reached today and the campaign promises, a blind eye was turned to the reality of what is happening.”

To this, Nagamootoo said “Mr. Ramayya has not given any facts as regard corruption. I am not clear in what context he is alleging there is corruption.”

Additionally, Dr. Ramayya is requesting a reimbursement of monies spent during the recent Election Campaigns, but the Prime Minister said “routinely he comes up with a sum, I’ve seen various and varying figures” implying that this is untrue.

According to reports in the media, Leader of the AFC denied that the party owes Ramayya any money.

Sections of the media suggested that the former REO resigned because he was not given a position in the government as he would have expected as Dr. Ramayya said “after five long years of commitment to the AFC I have decided now to resign as an executive member of the party, to be honest I was not treated as an executive member of the party, the five plus years I have given to them was a grave sacrifice on my part financially and with my time and effort.”

The Prime Minister said the position of R.E.O was “almost like a governor of a county and so one would expect that it would bring a lot of pressure on him to deliver. So I am not aware of what immediate cause there is to attach to his resignation.”
