When the West Demerara Football Association (WDFA) leg of the GFF/NAMILCO Thunderbolt Flour Power National Under-17 Intra Association league continued on Sunday last at the Den Amstel ground, Eagles FC of Stewartville soared to a 3-1 over Slingerz FC.

Slingerz suffered their second loss in as many matches having gone down to Den Amstel 3-4 the week before at the same venue. However, in Sunday’s clash with the Eagles, the Slingerz boys could not find their shooting range as they only scored once.

Eagles took first jump in the 19th minute when Marcus Thomas rocked the back of the nets. Four minutes later Glenroy Duncan scored Eagles’ second goal.

As the match moved closer to the halfway mark, Slingerz, through the efforts of Odell Duncan, were able to score their first of the match in the 44th minute, which reduced Eagles’ lead to one, 2-1.

But the Eagles were not in an accommodating mood and on the stroke of half-time they restored the two-goal cushion thanks to a goal off the boot of Charles Dann. The second half saw both teams going after each other, but no goals were scored as the lads from Stewartville were able to defend their first half two-goal cushion to walk away with three points.
