    The Rotary Club of New Amsterdam has once again presented certificates to several students from New Amsterdam and East Canje, Berbice following its Youth Leadership Award Training Seminar held at the Berbice High School on Saturday, October 08, 2016.
    The Rotary Youth Leadership Award Training Seminar is an annual one-day programme designed to assist the students in the development of their skills and talent, along with helping them to address problems they may face in their daily lives.
    According to the President of the Rotary Club of New Amsterdam, Roger Greenidge, the programme also provides the participants, an opportunity to meet and network with their counterparts from other schools. It is his hope that the students will be more informed at the conclusion of today’s session.
    The Seminar catered for ten students each from eight different Secondary Schools and one youth group.
    During the training, some of the topics Include suicide, leadership, teenage pregnancy, the sexual offences act, communication skills and the preparation of CVs.
    Regional Chairman, David Armogan who spoke on behalf of the Department of Education in Region Six, noted that department is pleased to be apart of the programme since it brings together prospective leaders in the community.
    He told the students that “the fact that you were chosen by your respective schools and youth organisation means you have been identified as someone who has the quality of a leader and need to be develop and I hope that you will get a good insight into the various topic discussed here today.”

    The Regional Chairman was tasked with doing a presentation on leadership while Member of Parliament, Charandass Persaud did a presentation on communication skills. Chandra Sohan educated the participants on the sexual offences act and Dr Ganesh Shivkumar presented on teenage pregnancy.
