Nandlall questions where is the Public Procurement Commission?

Former Attorney General and Executive member of the Opposition, People’s Progressive Party, Anil Nandlall during a recent exclusive interview with News Room expressed concern that the Public Procurement Commission, which the Government lobbied relentlessly for while in opposition, is yet to be established.

Nandlall said “they projected the Procurement Commission in fact as a panacea to cure so many things in society that it will remove corruption that it will bring economic growth, that is will bring financial prosperity to the people that is how they mark it, this glorious institution.”

The PPP Executive reminded that the PPC’s establishment was included in the APNU/AFC’s manifesto, as well as its 100 Days plan, yet it is still to bear fruit.

“Well 500 days after the Public Procurement Commission is still absent, it is non-operational, though parliament has completed its job of producing the names, the names have been sitting on the desk of the president, I am told for the longest while. In the meanwhile from the time the president has gotten those names, he has seen it fit to launch an elaborate and bureaucratic process to remove Carvil Duncan from office,” Nandlall noted.

He also made reference to the several CoIs undertaken by the administration, noting that in the absence of the PPC, cabinet continues to preside over “the most corrupt distribution of contracts ever seen in the history of this country.”

Nandlall took a swipe at the Government over the rental of a two-storey building in Albouystown at the cost of some 14 million dollars, which according to him, “cabinet decides that, that didn’t go through the procurement process, no one was invited to bid, this guy, we are told… is a member of the PNC, so they give the boys a contract.”

Government was also accused by Nandlall of handpicking persons for several contracts, while the PPC is yet to become operable.
