For over ten years, the Education Department of Region Six has been renting several buildings to house students from #36 Village Nursery and Primary Schools.

However, this will no longer be the case as Businessman, Mohin Persaud of Nand Persaud and Company has donated a plot of land to the Regional Democratic Council (RDC) to have a school built in the area.

So far, over $35M has been approved for the construction of a modernized school to house both the Primary and Nursery students and will also cater for persons with disabilities which are in keeping with the Ministry of Education efforts to ensure that all school-aged children have access to quality education.

During a visit to the area on Friday, October 14, 2016, Regional Executive Officer (REO), Kim Williams Stephen signed and handed over the contract which will see construction works commencing within the next two weeks. The school is expected to be completed for the new academic year in 2017.

“It is going to be a two-storey building. The upper level will be the primary school and the bottom flat will be the nursery level, it will house a canteen, an Information Technology department, it will have a sick bay and also a library to cater for the entire enhancement of the children” the REO said.

The REO also expressed appreciation towards Mohin Persaud for the land as it is what pushed for the realization of the school.

Presently the #36 Primary and Nursery school which currently have over 200 students are being housed in a church in the area and every time it rains, the students are affected.

“I wasn’t really interested in having a conversation with the regional vice chairman about the land but he had to do a lot of convincing so he was the one who got me to give this land so when I decided to give it I was very happy and that’s a done deal and whatever I did is for the best interest of all” Persaud posited.
