The Guyana Amateur Swimming Association and the Guyana Badminton Association have named their teams to compete in this weekend’s Inter-Guiana Games.

The Swimming Association team will be led by Olympian Hannibal Gaskin, who was one of Guyana’s representatives at the Rio Olympics this year.

Gaskin will lead the Boys team, which comprises Omar Adams, Jamaal Skeete, Daniel Scott, Antonio Rodrigues and Alex Winter. The Girls team is made up of Lian Winter, Danielle George, Jadyn George, Anna Isaacs, Kenita Mahaica and Nikita Fiedtkou.

The coach is Shyka Gonsalves and manager Leon Seaton. Swimming will take place at the National Aquatic Centre, Lilliendaal, from 09:00h on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the badminton team will compete for the first time without star player Narayan Ramdhani, who is on scholarship in Vancouver, Canada. According to coach Gokarn Ramdhani, the absence of Narayan is a significant blow, but he is confident the eight players selected have the ability to do Guyana proud at the championship.

Coach Ramdhani has placed Guyana’s chances of prevailing on the capable shoulders of Priyanna Ramdhani and Jonathon Mangra, while he expects the other players to hold their own against the Surinamese.

With Guyana set to compete in the Boys and Girls Singles and Doubles and the Mixed Doubles, Ramdhani is looking to the players to win as many games as possible, as their points will be added to determine the champion country.

The male players are Jonathon Mangra, Ronald Chang Yuen, Tyrese Jeffrey, Akili Haynes, and Cecil Abrams, while the females are Priyanna Ramdhani, Ambika Ramraj and Kara Abrams. Badminton will be played on Saturday from 09:00h to 12:00h at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue.
