Today is Wear it Pink Friday in observance of Breast Cancer Awareness and Breast cancer advocate and President of the Guyana Cancer Foundation, Bibi Hassan stopped by the News Room’s studio to update us on the work of the Organization and other plans including the Breast Cancer Crusade Walk slated for Saturday October 22.

The Guyana Cancer Foundation President is once again calling on corporate Guyana to join the fight against cancer by supporting her organization and its many awareness activities.

Having experienced firsthand the pain and distress a cancer diagnosis and subsequent treatment causes, not only to the person diagnosed, but the family, Miss Hassan is determined to help all those in need, through the Foundation.

She explained that the medically underserved, uninsured and low income women suffering from breast cancer are the target groups; however this will not prohibit the foundation from assisting those suffering from other forms of cancer.

Miss Hassan made a special appeal for women to get regular checkups and also to conduct the self breast examinations, sharing a personal experience of how traumatic a positive diagnosis can be.

Several Corporate sponsors including King’s Jewellery World, The Giftland Mall, GBTI, Scotia Bank, Clear Waters and several others on Friday joined with the Guyana Cancer Foundation to celebrate Wear it Pink Friday! A day set aside internationally to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer awareness.

This year’s theme is “Never Walk Alone, We Save Lives Together.”
