GWI to provide filters to Kamarang residents following Diarrhoea outbreak

The Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) will be sending a team of officials and experts to Kamarang in Region Seven following reports of a Diarrhoea outbreak in the community, to assess the situation and provide technical solutions for the community.

It is alleged that the outbreak is caused as a result of the absence of potable water.

According to reports, one contributory factor is a well drilled by the GWI in the community which only reached to 50 feet and it was halted. However, the water company categorically stated that the well in question was and is not a project being undertaken by GWI. In fact, it is a project being carried out by the Basic Needs Trust Fund.

The team will be headed by Minister within the Ministry of Communities with responsibility for water, Dawn Hastings. The minister will be accompanied by GWI’s Managing Director Dr. Richard Van West-Charles and Executive Director of Project Implementation & Partnership Building, Ramchand Jailal among other experts.

A number of Lifesaver filters will be sent to distribute to the residents to allow for the access to potable water for consumption by villagers.
