WJ Enterprise, under its Croxley Copy Paper, on Monday confirmed its alliance with the Guyana Floodlight Softball Cricket Association (GFSCA) as a partner for this weekend’s Guyana Softball Cup 6 championship.

At a simple ceremony at its Regent Street location, the company’s representative, Nasheena Narine, presented a cheque for an undisclosed amount to members of the Guyana Floodlight Softball Cricket Association.

This is the third year that WJ Enterprise has aligned itself with the country’s biggest softball event, and present to accept the company’s contribution were GFSCA President Ramchand Ragbeer, Vice-president Ricky Deonarain and Organising Secretary, Wayne Jones.

Narine, speaking on behalf of WJ Enterprise, said the management and staff are happy to be part of this “prestigious tournament”, and she is confident the GFSCA will pull off another successful competition.

Ragbeer expressed appreciation to the entity for its continued support, adding that all arrangements are currently being finalised to ensure another high-quality tournament.

Jones assured that another weekend of heated softball rivalry is guaranteed, as from all indications, the overseas teams are coming full throttle to face their Guyanese counterparts.

The tournament, which has attracted a total of 24 teams in the Male Open and Male Masters categories, will bowl off Friday morning and concluded under floodlights on Sunday night at the DCC ground in Queenstown. Admission to the finals on Sunday is $1,000 and action is set to bowl off at 11:00h.

Teams from Guyana, Canada, Florida and New York will compete in the three-day competition, which will utilise the big white ball.

The teams will be batting for lucrative prizes, as well as some massive trophies put up by Trophy Stall, while fans will be in for a treat as they can win one of four trips for two to four local resorts. All patrons need to do is retain their half tickets and listen on the PA system for their number to be called.

Tickets for two, compliments of Survival Travel Agency, will be on offer for trips to Baganara, Arrowpoint, Aruwai and Kaieteur/Orinduik falls.

Ten hampers will also be up for grabs. Regal made a clean sweep of the titles last year, winning both the Open and Masters categories.

The tournament has attracted corporate support from Stag Beer, Rubis Guyana, Trophy Stall, Survival Group of Business, Steve’s Jewellery, Clear Waters, Busta Soft Drinks, Rohan Auto Spares, A&R Jewanram Printery, WJ Enterprise and Mike’s Pharmacy.
