Steve’s Jewellery on Thursday morning unveiled the Most Valuable Player (MVP) prizes for the highly anticipated Guyana Softball Cup 6, set to bowl off on Friday morning at venues in Demerara.

At a simple presentation ceremony at Steve’s Jewellery on Church Street, Georgetown, proprietor Steve Narine presented the two gold cricket bat pendants, accentuated with diamond studs to officials of the Guyana Floodlights Softball Cricket Association (GFSCA), Ricky Deonarain and Dharam Persaud.

The pieces of jewellery will be presented to the MVP of both the Open and Masters categories. The prize is a change from the previous five editions of Guyana Softball Cup where the MVPs were presented with gold and diamond cricket bracelets.

As expected, Narine said his establishment is quite pleased to be associated with the country’s leading softball cricket competition.

He explained the reason for his continued involvement with the GFSCA, the organising body of the tournament, noting that apart from the GFSCA’s shrewd management and efficiency in promoting softball cricket, he is a great admirer of the group’s philanthropic gestures across the country.

Persaud said the GFSCA is once again grateful for the support put forward by Steve’s Jewellery, and the association is looking forward to a long and cordial working relationship with the entity.

The tournament is set for a prompt bowl-off on Friday morning at 08:00h and will conclude under floodlights at the DCC ground on Sunday night. Deonarain stated that all systems are in place for another successful tournament, adding that the GFSCA is once again expecting a large turnout of fans on Sunday from 11:00h when the finals would be contested at the DCC ground, Queenstown.

A total of 24 teams from Guyana, Florida, New York and Canada will compete in the Open and Masters divisions, utilising the big white ball.

The teams will be batting for lucrative prizes, as well as some massive trophies put up by Trophy Stall, while fans will be in for a treat as they can win one of four trips for two to four local resorts- Arrowpoint, Baganara, Aruwai and Kaieteur/Orinduik Falls.

To become eligible to win those prizes, all fans need to do is retain their half ticket. Ten hampers will also be up for grabs. Regal made a clean sweep of the titles last year, winning both the Open and Masters categories.
