Gov’t approves Civil Aviation Master Plan to guide “strategic development” of airport infrastructure

Public Infrastructure Minister, David Patterson at the last Cabinet meeting presented several recommendations aimed at improving the Aviation Sector and according to State Minister, Joseph Harmon one of these include the setting up of an airport review panel in keeping with the Ogle Airport Lease.

The State minister noted that “cabinet has been briefed on this matter and gave its approval for the establishment of an airport review panel as required by Article 16 of the lease agreement with Ogle Airport Inc.” Something the Ogle Airport Inc. had been calling for to outline the duties of Government and the company that manages the airport.

The establishment of an airport authority was also approved by Government to create, upgrade, maintain and manage airport infrastructure throughout Guyana.

The State Minister informed too that approval was granted for the development of a Civil Aviation Master plan “to guide the strategic development of airport infrastructure.”

The Master Plan would set out the types of facilities to be provided for airports by category, it will also include plans for the development of “air navigation services and safety oversight aspects of the National Civil Aviation system,” he said.

Regions 1,7,8 and 9 were identified for the construction of municipal airports modeling that of the Eugene F. Correia Airport.

Harmon noted that with the development of new towns, Government has to ensure that all the regulations are in place to facilitate the upgrade of all these facilities.
