The Guyana Football Federation (GFF), under the guidance of newly appointed Technical Director Ian Greenwood, is hoping to find new talents with its Grassroot Festival starting this Saturday, targeting children between the ages five and 12 who have never really tried their hands, or feet in this instance, at football.

At a press conference on Wednesday, Greenwood, who revealed that the programme will last for the next four weeks, shared the aims and goals behind its formulation.

“The idea is to really design a programme for a brand new set of kids, so the idea is to bring out as many kids as possible,” Greenwood noted.

The programme will start this Saturday from 10:00h and conclude at 14:00h, and Greenwood revealed some the things planned for the children during the day.

“In terms of what we will be doing with the kids is basically fundamental and key drills and dribbling skills, different activities throughout the day,” Greenwood highlighted.

With the GFF hoping to also help the various associations to improve their technical staff, as part of the grassroot programme, the GFF will also be providing grassroot coaching programmes from next year.

“From the end of January there will be coaching programmes running for a long period of time and they will be structured on specific training, on five-year olds and eight-year olds… so it will be a full programme of coaching,” Greenwood stated.

With the programme aimed at getting a new batch of players within the framework of the GFF, the first festival will start on Saturday at Golden Grove on the East Coast of Demerara.
