Taking away 16 trophies, 3 shields, 2 certificates and one gift voucher along with a laptop and monetary awards, Guyana’s top Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) student for the year 2016; Fatima Karim on Thursday graduated from the St Rose’s High School.

Karim copped 19 grade ones and one grade two at the CSEC exams.

During an interview with the News Room in August, the aspiring Petroleum Engineer said she is hoping to get into the University of Texas (Austin). However, if she is unsuccessful in her attempt to enroll at the University, she will be pursuing her Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE) studies here.

Following the disclosure of the exam results, several persons raised questions in relation to her choice to write 20 subjects, with some condemning it. However, Elated Karim told News Room that her belief is, no one should be stopped from achieving their full potential.

She encouraged current and future students to “push yourself to how far you can go, if you can do 15 subjects, do it, if you can do 20 subjects, do it. Do not let anybody hold you back.”

Previously, the scholar was awarded a trip for two (2) to Arrowpoint Nature Resort, the Tourism and Hospitality Association of Guyana Presidents Award “Resort of the Year”, a trip to Kaieteur Falls and an Aerial Tour of Georgetown.
