The Parliamentary Opposition People’s Progressive Party is deeming the D’Urban Park Project an absolute scandal after information surfaced that Education Minister; Dr. Rupert Roopnarine is a director of the company, Homestretch Investment Inc. which has oversight of the controversial project.

The PPP today during a press conference provided the names of several persons who are alleged directors of the company ,namely Larry London, Education Minister Dr. Rupert Roopnarine, Babita Khan, Victor Wilson and University lecturer Gentian Miller.

According to the PPP Homestretch Investment Inc. was established in January of this year and the Project commenced sometime in August 2015, which means that the company was soliciting funds or donations on behalf of the project long after it had commenced.

Member of Parliament Juan Edghill described this revelation as a “scandal of monumental proportion” and is calling on the Coalition Government to come clean with Guyanese, since according to him the Opposition side left the House on Monday still not knowing the total cost of the project.

Meantime, his colleague Irfaan Ali supported these arguments noting too that there are a number of glaring discrepancies with the information provided to the House, much in contradiction to the Fiscal Management and Accountability Act (FMAA).

Public Infrastructure Minister, David Patterson is being challenged to deny that he was dishonest in the National Assembly during Monday’s sitting.

PPP is contending that the over 400 million dollars taken from the Consolidated Fund for the Project was also in violation of the FMAA, since that project was not of Public interest nor was it an emergency.

News Room reached out to Education Minister, Dr. Rupert Roopnarine regarding his involvement with the project, however up to news time he was still in the weekly cabinet meeting.
