The Bertram Collins College of the Public Service was today ceremonially opened with the aim of transforming the public service for the 21st century and beyond.

This facility is located in what was previously known as the Training division of the Department of the Public Service at Durban Street and Vlissengen Road, Georgetown.

According to Manager of the College’s Planning and Development Department, Phillip Walcott, “this college is designed to train everyone entering the public service and to upgrade the skills of the existing public servants.”

Meanwhile Minister with responsibility for the public service, Joseph Harmon said it is his hope that the college would take Guyana to a place where all can be proud of the persons who hold the title of public servants; “The kind of public service that is educated…, It innovate, understands the reality of Guyana so that the service which you provide can be efficient and effective”.

He also notes that college’s approach is a holistic one that will cater to the needs of all levels of public servants from senior to entry level.

Specifically, in the case of seniors, he says there will be programmes geared at making them marketable even beyond retirement.

This institution gets it’s named from a renowned son of the soil, Dr Bertram Aggrey Nathaniel Collins, who in addition to serving in various academic institutions would have provided the blueprint for the public service sector that currently exists.
