The Guyana Defense Force this morning put on a show for some city residents as they held a route march which passed through several streets in Georgetown.

The march brought down the curtains on the month of activities to mark the 51st Anniversary of the Guyana Defense Force.

After traversing the city streets with “On Point” marching skills and shouldering AK47 Assault Rifles, the various platoons assembled at the Durban Park between Homestretch Avenue and Hadfield Street.

They stood at ease briefly until the arrival of Prime Minister Moses Nagamootoo followed by President David Granger.

After providing the two government officials with their salutes, the members of the Guyana Defense Force were then addressed by their Chief- of -Staff George Lewis followed by Commander- in -Chief of the Armed forces President David Granger.

Lewis spoke of the increased operations which the GDF has been doing at Guyana’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) while the Head of State spoke of the tremendous role the GDF has been playing over the years to keep the borders safe.

During the route march, the GDF also had on Stand by their medical corps and also received aerial coverage from one its choppers. Members of the Defense Board were also present this morning at Durban Park as were several spectators.
