Persons eligible for Old Age Pension from the National Insurance Scheme (NIS) can begin having those claims sorted out three years in advance.

The NIS on Wednesday has announced that it will be launching a Pension Readiness Programme aimed at preparing individuals eligible for Old Age benefit at the age of 57 and over. This the Insurance body said should make the payment of Old Age Benefit more efficient on its contributors.

Additionally, it is the Scheme’s responsibility to ensure that retired Insured Persons have the resources they need to be self-sufficient in that phase of their lives and as such, timely payment of benefits NIS said, is one of the areas that the Scheme has been placing great emphasis.

Previously, persons meeting the required age in a current year would have to wait until their records are verified before receiving any payments.

Each year an official list of persons who fall into this category is generated and an individual Contribution Record is printed and posted to each of the Insured Persons who have been so identified.

On receipt of their Contribution Records, persons whose printouts have errors are usually advised to visit the Records Section located at Camp and Bent Streets Georgetown or the nearest Local Office with the relevant supporting document to have their queries addressed.
