Prison service boost Human Capacity by 51

The Human Capacity of the Guyana Prison Service has been boosted with an additional 23 females and 28 males. This was disclosed on Wednesday when it held a passing out parade for 51 recruits.

The recruits, who are drawn from most parts of the coastland, received their certificate on Wednesday after successfully completing their training.

During the event hosted at the Cecil Kilkenny Prison Officers Training School at Lusignan, Director of Prisons acting, Gladwin Samuels reminded them that at work they would meet good and bad prison officers and it is up to the new entrance to the organisation to be guided by their training and their personal morals and values to decide how they respond to those influence.

Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Public Security Daneilla McCalmon was also present at the event. She took the salute and inspected the guard of honor before addressing the recruits in the presence of senior and junior officers of the prison Service and relatives of the recruits.

The training saw the security procedures, conflict resolution, life skills, prison doctrine and behaviour psychology, all aimed at producing well rounded prison officer.

Those who passed out on Wednesday would be sent to prisons across the country where they would be integrated into the staff population.
