Christopher Ram, Ramesh Dookhoo among Nominees Jagdeo deems fit to chair GECOM

Former Army Chief, Norman Mc Lean, Attorney and Political Analyst, Christopher Ram and Former Chairman of the Private Sector Commission, Ramesh Dookhoo are among the six nominees that Opposition Leader, Bharrat Jagdeo has submitted to President David Granger to fill the post of Chairman of the Guyana Elections Commission.

These names were revealed by Jagdeo on Wednesday (December 21, 2016) during a press conference at the close of the Consideration of the Estimates of Budget 2017.

The other nominees are Peace and Governance Consultant, Lawrence Lachmansingh, Businesswoman, Rhyaan Shah and Professor Dr. James Rose.

From these six nominees, the President is expected to choose one which he does not find displeasing, however, if all are found to be unfavourable, the Opposition Leader will have to return to the drawing board and return with another six nominees.
